"Summer of Mac's Landing"

SUMMER OF `99
SUMMER OF MAC’S LANDING
LAST OF OUR CENTURY.
HOT, HAZY, HUMID NIGHTS
WASHED AWAY BY RAIN.
LIGHTNING AND A THUNDEROUS
DISPLAY OF FIREWORKS
THAT LIT UP THE EVENING SKY
AND COOLED THE NIGHTS
BY FIRELIGHT.

A WELCOME BREEZE GREETED US
EVERY MORNING THEREAFTER
ACCOMPANIED BY THE MILD AROMA
OF COFFEE BREWING.
SHIMMERING LAKE FLOOR LIKE GLASS
GAVE LIFE TO THE TREES AMID
THE MORNING LIGHT,
AND WE WERE REVIVED.
JUMPING HEAD LONG INTO
NATURE’S DOMAIN
ROUGHING IT (IF YOU WILL)
WITH OUR ELECTRONIC DEVICES
AND JUNGLE BEATS.

DADDY LONG LEGS
DANCING TO THE RHYTHMS
GUSHING FROM OUR LITTLE COTTAGE.
COOL NIGHTS
OF WINE, GUITARS, AND CAMPFIRES.

NOT SO FAR AWAY
CIVILIZATION.
MALLS AND MOVIES
SUMMER OF SAM
CHERRY FESTIVAL;
BEAR DUNES
WHAT BREATHTAKING SIGHTS!
WALKING ON THE WATER
AS FAR AS THE EYE COULD SEE
SOMEWHERE BETWEEN THE EQUATOR
AND THE NORTH POLE…
MISSION POINT LIGHTHOUSE

I BELIEVE THE GIRLS LEFT
SOMETHING THERE THAT SUMMER
I BELIEVE IT WAS THEIR HAIR.
IT WAS A GREAT TIME AT MAC’S LANDING

BY THE END OF THE WEEK
WE WERE ANXIOUS TO GET BACK
BACK TO THE RAT INFESTED,
DOG EAT DOG CITY OF HUSTLE AND HURRY,
WORK AND WORRY
SOMEHOW WE JUST HADN’T SHAKEN OFF
THE JITTERS OF THE FAST PACED LIFE
EVEN IN THIS WILDERNESS

GOODBYE TRAVERSE CITY…
HELLO FARMINGTON HILLS…

WE’LL BE BACK.

Hay, I've been there. I don't remember the girl's hair! You captured a great young at heart mood with this poem.

Traverse City is wonderful in the summer. It was so hot up there the first couple of days, that both Tana and Marysol cut off all their hair. (Not all of it, but pretty short). The summer of Sam reference was to the "Son of Sam" movie that we saw while we were up there that summer. (Don't waste your time or money, terrible movie)
Thank you and welcome to my blog!
Yours has been very inspirational in helping me to get my butt moving. Slow...but I'm coming along.

May your writing increase a thousandfold. Don't ever feel guilty about blogging and writing too much. It's therapeutic!

Feliz Navidad, and a Happy New Year!

Thanks for the pep talk! But I have heard that you, too, become obsessed with let's see... the list is looooong! I'm glad my blog has inspired you to get your writing out there. I really do love the blog experience, no matter how riddled with guilt I may be.
